Basically, this site exists for the purpose of telling the story of the spread of the Hare Krishna movement to what used to be called the "Soviet Union". It is a fascinating and very inspiring story.
This site is being done at the encouragement of H.G. Kirtiraj das, who was personally very much active, along with his wife HariPuja devi dasi, in following the instruction of Srila Prabhupada to help spread this movement to the Soviet states. They are the source of much of the material which will be filling up these pages.
However, we are very much hoping that many others who were involved in this, and have very exciting and inspiring stories to tell, will also contribute material for the site.
This site is VERY MUCH a work-in-progress, so please be just a little patient while we do the initial work that will both provide much interesting material, as well as point the way towards how we see the site evolving.
Here is what you can expect from this site in the immediate future:
First, we will populate the site with just some of the material we have, so that that in itself should make the site of interest.
Second, we will provide a framework for others to participate in populating the site, by submitting their own material. We will do this in a manner absolutely sensitive to the desires of those involved to protect their material in any way they express. We are confident we can manage to do this.
Third, we hope to express in a helpful way the imperative need for those involved to preserve and protect the materials they have in their possession. Besides posting material on this website, I would encourage anybody who has either stories or material artifacts (letters, photos, VCR tapes, etc), to do their utmost to preserve and protect these items. That means digitally scanning items, taking photos of various objects (like Soviet japa beads), and working to preserve PAL or SECAM VCR tapes into NTSC format, and eventually into DVD format, so that they can be available for future generations.
